This is our second visit to Scotland but the first for a spring bunkhouse weekend. The event is planned for the first weekend of May leaving the site on the First Bank Holiday Monday of May so we should have reasonable weather together with exclusive use of the Bunkhouse and its Showers/ cooking facilities. Galloway Activity Centre is situated on the banks of Loch Ken in south west Scotland, close to the border with England, so has single track and good open riding roads, but look out for the speed cameras. The site is Galloway Forest Park in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with easy access to the A74 For this event we have: Four twin bedded, Loch side cabins and three four bedded rooms within the bunkhouse. Priority for the cabins will be given to couples. Dark Skies The Galloway Forest Park is the first area in the U.K. to be awarded Dark Sky status. The extremely low levels of light pollution make ideal conditions for night gazers and star spotters. Especially as this weekend is the Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower of about 10 per hour at the peak, only a crescent moon so it should not be too bright either. The 4 Twin, Loch side cabins at the Centre are on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park. The Raiders road is just opposite the site on Loch Ken and you can gaze out of the window at the starry skies above. The bunkhouse is a big lodge and we have exclusive use of 3 separate bunk rooms each with 4 beds. There are 3 communal shower and toilet rooms. The lodge has a communal area for eating and socialising. There is a lounge with DVD, video player, T.V. area, dining table and fully equipped kitchen with ample pots, pans and crockery. For self catering users, the closest supermarket is in Castle Douglas which is a 10 mile drive so it is best to shop on the way there. There are smaller shops in the locality if we forgotten vital items. This is a bunkhouse so lookout for snorers. There is a cafe that offers views of Loch Ken and across to Bennan Hill. Visitors can sit, enjoy breakfasts, coffee, home baking, meals and watch some of the action on the water or even some Red Kites swooping overhead. The Plan Arrive Friday arrange your own food. Ride out on Saturday and then a group evening meal. Ride out Sunday and then eat as a group. On Bank Holiday Monday end with a gentle ride home. The centre has an on site cafe where we can pre-arrange meals. Details will be agreed nearer the event date. You will be able to stay longer if you want to enjoy the May darkness by arranging it with the camp site. In 2010 and 2011 the spring event, held in England, was a quiet weekend with gentle riding, good chat and group evening meal. This should be the same. Organiser: George Baker Cost is 55 per person. We have three rooms with four beds available and four twin bedded cabins - single rooms are not available so you will be roomed with others. This means that there are only 20 places available on a 'First come, First Served' basis so early booking and payment is highly recommended. So Book Now........ if you'd like to attend this rally you need to get those bookings in now......
