The cost
is £35 per person for the weekend for a bed space with bedding. MEMBERS ONLY.
Camping is also now available,
at £15.00 per pitch per night for up to 2 people. To keep this simple you
need to book both nights so its £30.00 per pitch for the weekend working out at
£7.50 per person per night for 2 sharing a tent. I have 6 pitches at present, so

This is
our second visit to Hereford for a spring bunkhouse weekend. The event is
planned for the last weekend of March arriving from lunchtime on Friday and
leaving the site on Sunday 1st of April so 2 nights’ accommodation. As its late
March/April we should have reasonable weather, last year was brilliant at this
time and the sun shone for the whole weekend. The club has exclusive use of the
bunkhouse with integral Shower block and each room has its own cooking
facilities.
Woodside Lodges is a country
park in Hereford close to the border of Wales, so has cider and good riding
roads in abundance but do look out for the speed cameras. The site is at the
foot of the Malvern Hills in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with easy
access to the M5/M50. It is 2 miles from Ledbury, an ancient town mentioned in
the Doomsday Book famous for its cobbled streets, Black and White buildings, and
as a market centre. Ledbury is situated, at equal distances from Gloucester,
Hereford, and Worcester so well located for a ride out.
There are about 30 cider
makers in Hereford, so we should be ok for a pint. Sarah’s Cider is 5 miles away
and we bought a couple of gallons from her last year.
The town and local
pubs are a couple of miles away. Most people arrived Friday afternoon in 2011
and we did our own thing for food. On Saturday there was an informal ride out
for those that fancied it and we had a BBQ in the woods when people returned.
We can do this again weather depending, or cook in the kitchens. There are also
pubs, fish and chips, a Tesco and restaurants in Ledbury so the choice is
entirely yours.
On
Sunday a gentle ride home maybe stopping somewhere for coffee and a break. You
will be able to stay longer if you want to enjoy the April showers by arranging
it directly with the site owners.
The bunkhouse is a big barn
with 5 rooms and a lounge to sit in to put the world to rights. Each room has a
wardrobe, dining and cooking areas. The room has an Electric coin meter, kettle,
toaster, microwave, table top cooker, fridge, utensils and crockery. This is a
bunkhouse so look-out for snorers.
There is a mixture of 2, 3 and 4 bedded rooms. Last year couples got a room per
couple.
In 2011 this was a quiet weekend with gentle riding, good chat and gentle cider
drinking. The event proved very popular and demand is expected to be high this
year so please get those bookings in quickly.
